The Susan Miller Music Festival is sponsored by the York Music Teachers Association (YMTA). The Festival will occur all day on Saturday October 2, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation (925 S. George Street) and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (25 W. Springettsbury Avenue). Students may participate in :
Auditions:
Both “honor” (intermediate and above, option public setting) and “merit” (all levels, private setting) adjudications are offered for piano, strings, winds, and voice this year. Get valuable feedback from experienced judges! Ask your studio instructor or school music educator about repertoire selection, technical requirements, and how to prepare.
Note: requests for specific student audition times will only be considered if registration is received before August 30th. The final deadline for registrations is September 8. All current YJSO and YYSO members will be guaranteed an afternoon audition time.
Theory Tests:
Primer – Grade 8 PMTA written theory exams are available for anyone who wants to assess their understanding of the “nuts and bold” of music – but they are optional!. This year (only), all theory exams will be taken independently before the the festival. Ask your school or studio instructor to help you to select the correct level and submit your graded work before September 30. Note: performers wishing to be considered for placement on the October 3rd Honors Recital must take a theory exam.
Honors Recital:
Audition on October 2nd to be considered for participation in the Honors Recital on Sunday October 3rd at 3pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran. Candidates must receive superior marks in their adjudication for the intermediate level (or above) memorized audition pieces and pass a Level 3 (or above) Theory Exam with a minimum score of 80%. (Professional YMTA faculty accompanists may be available to assist for this recital.)
