Claire-Chung Lim

Dr. Claire-Chung Lim is a pianist and collaborative artist whose work encompasses solo, chamber, and collaborative music. Praised by Emanuel Ax for her “richly expressive artistry and rock-solid technique” and by Yo-Yo Ma for her “rare ability to elevate the artistry of her collaborators,” she has performed at Carnegie Hall, Jordan Hall, Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood, and other major venues throughout the United States and abroad. She has been recognized with First Prize at the Brahms Piano Competition and Third Prize at the Sion International Duo Competition, as well as honors from the American Protégé Awards.

Originally from South Korea, Dr. Lim graduated summa cum laude from Seoul National University before earning dual master’s degrees in Solo Piano and Collaborative Piano from the New England Conservatory and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Collaborative Piano from Boston University. Her artistic development has been shaped by collaborations and study with distinguished musicians including Robert Levin, Miriam Fried, Kim Kashkashian, Donald Weilerstein, Paul Katz, Lluís Claret, Atar Arad, and Ransom Wilson. She has participated in festivals and programs including the Tanglewood Music Center, Banff Centre, Heifetz International Music Institute, Music Academy of the West, and Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival.

Her performances and work have been featured in The Strad and other publications, and her playing has been broadcast on WCRB, WFMT, WUOL, and Suisse Espace 2. As an educator, she has served on the faculties of the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign. She currently teaches piano at York College of Pennsylvania and the York College Preparatory School.
